The Undergraduate English Translation and Interpreting Programme at Malatya Turgut Özal University was established within the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences and commenced education in the 2023–2024 academic year.

Admission Requirements
Students are admitted to the programme through the national university entrance examination in the foreign language (English) field.
Upon enrolment, students are required to take an English proficiency exam administered by the School of Foreign Languages.
Students who pass the proficiency exam begin directly in the first year of the English Translation and Interpreting undergraduate programme.
Those who fail are required to complete a one-year English preparatory programme offered by the School of Foreign Languages.
Recognition of Prior Learning
For students wishing to transfer from other higher education institutions in Turkey or abroad, the Regulation on the Principles of Transfer between Associate and Bachelor’s Degree Programmes, Double Major, Minor and Credit Transfer among Institutions as well as the principles and conditions determined by the Senate of Malatya Turgut Özal University are applied.
Qualification Requirements and Regulations
To graduate from the English Translation and Interpreting Undergraduate Programme, students must successfully complete 240 ECTS credits and achieve a minimum cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 2.00 out of 4.00.
Programme Overview
The aim of the English Translation and Interpreting undergraduate programme is to train translators and interpreters who have full command of both English and Turkish in written and oral translation.
Given the interdisciplinary nature of translation studies, the programme is designed to interact with various academic disciplines.
It has been structured to produce well-equipped graduates capable of meeting the demands and expectations of today’s translation and interpreting sectors.

Its purpose is to train qualified translators and interpreters who can meet the needs of the profession as well as prospective academics who will contribute to the field of translation studies.
Occupational Profile of Graduates
Graduates of the English Translation and Interpreting Programme can find employment in a wide range of institutions and sectors.
They may work at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Treasury and Finance, Ministry of Justice, as well as in municipalities and other public institutions.
They may also pursue careers in publishing houses, magazines, television channels, newspapers, and translation agencies, or work as freelance translators and interpreters in specialized fields such as medicine, law, economics, sports, and automotive translation.
Additionally, graduates may work in development agencies, embassies, and consulates, and participate in EU-related institutions and projects requiring translation and interpreting.
They can also serve as interpreters at national and international congresses and conferences facilitating communication between parties.
Those who obtain a pedagogical formation certificate may work as language teachers in public or private educational institutions.
Graduates are also qualified for positions in banking, tourism, advertising, and public relations sectors.
Furthermore, they may continue their education at the graduate (Master’s and PhD) levels to pursue an academic career or seek employment in various public and private sector organizations.
Access to Further Studies
Students who successfully complete their undergraduate studies may apply for graduate programmes (Master’s or Doctoral degrees) in their own field or in related disciplines.
